Broxel to Pathward® Transition FAQs.

Why are Broxel account opening applications paused?

Broxel is partnering with a new bank, Pathward®, National Association, meaning we are not opening new accounts at the moment. This change will allow us to provide you with an enhanced financial experience.

But don’t worry, you will be able to open a new account soon. Stay tuned!

Why is my current Broxel account being closed?

We’re changing bank partners from Metropolitan Commercial Bank (MCB) to Pathward®, National Association.

Your current Broxel account issued by Metropolitan Commercial Bank (MCB) will be closed on October 8th, 2024. After this date, you can no longer use your card or access its associated services.

To avoid disruption to your Broxel services, you’ll need to opt-in and open a new Broxel account with Pathward by accepting our new cardholder agreement and terms. You’ll be required to opt-in to the transition process before September 30th, 2024.

What does opting-in mean?

Opting-in means you agree to transition your current Broxel account to Pathward. You’ll need to submit an application and have your identity verified. If approved, you’ll receive a new account with updated details, and we will transfer your balance to your new account.

What happens if I don't opt-in?

If you don’t opt-in by September 30th or your application is not approved, your current Broxel account will be closed on October 8th, and any remaining balance will be mailed to you by check.

How do I opt-in?

We will be reaching out on multiple channels like email, push notifications, and the Broxel Pay App with instructions on how to opt-in. The process typically takes a few minutes and requires some basic information like ID, address, email, and phone number.

What are the benefits of transitioning to Pathward?

You’ll enjoy increased spending limits, the ability to send remittances to Mexico, a new Visa® card with contactless technology, and continued access to all your favorite Broxel features.

*This optional offer is not a Pathward product or service, nor does Pathward endorse this offer. View terms and conditions.

What happens after I opt-in?

Once you opt in and if your application is approved, Broxel will send you a confirmation with instructions on when your new account will be ready.

What documents do I need to provide for ID verification during opt-in?

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • One of these valid IDs
    • Mexican documents: INE, passport, driver’s license, consular ID card
    • American documents: SSN, passport, driver’s license
  • Valid address in the US: Your current US residential address (You may be required proof of address)

Once you’ve opted-in, you’ll receive confirmation with instructions on when your new account will be ready.

Can I opt-in after the September 30th deadline?

No, the last day to opt-in to open a new account is on September 30th. If you miss this deadline or your application is not approved, your current Broxel account issued by MCB will be closed on October 8th, and any remaining balance will be mailed to you by check. After this date, you will no longer be able to log into the app, nor use your card or associated services.

But don’t worry! You will be able to open a new account later this year.

When will I receive my new Visa® card?

We will notify you when your card is on its way. You can expect it to arrive in 10 business days after receiving such email.

Will my account number and routing number change with the new account?

Yes, your account number and routing number will change with the transition to Pathward. We will provide you with the new details once your application is approved and your new account is ready.

How do I update my billers and merchants with my new account details for recurring payments?

You’ll need to contact your billers and merchants directly to update your account information for recurring payments (e.g., subscriptions, utilities) as soon as you receive your new account details.

Will my money be protected or insured by the FDIC if I opt-in?

Yes, funds in your new card will be held at an FDIC-insured institution. When you add money to your new Visa® Prepaid Card issued by Pathward, the funds will be placed with an FDIC-insured financial institution. Once there, your funds are eligible for FDIC pass-through insurance, subject to applicable limitations and restrictions, up to $250,000, in the aggregate, provided certain FDIC requirements are met and your Card is registered. FDIC insurance applies in the event the FDIC-insured institution fails. FDIC insurance does not protect your funds in the event of Servicios Broxel S.A.P.I. de C.V.’s failure or from the risk of theft or fraud.

You can review further details on FDIC pass-through insurance for the funds in your card in the new cardholder agreement.

For general FDIC pass-through insurance information, see fdic.gov/deposit/deposits/prepaid.html.

What happens to my remaining balance during the transition?

Your remaining balance will be transferred to your new Broxel account with Pathward if you decide to opt-in and your application is approved.

If you decide not to transition to Pathward, or your application has not been approved, your current Broxel account will be closed by October 8th,2024, and a check for the remaining balance will be mailed to the address associated with your account within 30 days following the date of closure.

How do I update my mailing address?

Broxel will provide instructions on updating your mailing address in future emails. Please make sure to check all folders including SPAM.
